Eat Fat - Get Fit !
By Dr Udo Erasmus

Eat fat to get fit? To many readers, that might sound like a contradiction, because we have been told over and over again that fats cause heart attacks, strokes and other health problems.

As a result, many people have adopted a 'low fat' or even a 'no-fat' diet. This is a bad idea! Did you know that several patients in low fat intervention studies have actually died from the results of cardiac arrhythmia ?!!!

It's vital to know that there are actually two stories on fats. There are fats that predispose us to health problems, but there are other fats that, when obtained in the right balance, can help to keep us fit and healthy. In other words, there are fats that kill and fats that heal.

So let us talk about the healing fats. There are two of them. They're called 'Essential Fatty Acids' or EFAs for short. They are called 'essential' because they are substances that your body must have, but cannot make - so you have to get them from what you eat. If you don't get enough of them you can become very ill. If you don't get any at all, you could die!

The two 'essential' fats are called Omega 3 and Omega 6. To get maximum benefit from these fats, it is not only important to get enough of them, it is also vital to get them in the right balance.

What is the right balance?

Essential Fatty Acids, when consumed in a ratio of two (omega 3) to one (omega 6) and at levels of about 12 - 15 percent of total calorific intake, increase the rate of metabolic reaction in the body. This increased metabolic rate burns more fat into carbon dioxide, water and energy (heat), which results in fat burn-off and a loss of excess weight.
We should not count Essential Fatty Acids as fat calories because they increase calorie burning. Instead of being used as fuel, they play a role in cell membranes, and are converted into hormone-like prostaglandins. Yes - these fats really can help to keep us fit!

When you consume EFAs in the form of pure, unadulterated fats and oils, your energy levels and stamina increase. This is especially obvious to overweight people, the elderly and athletes. One study found that with the addition of EFAs to the diet, athletes gained increased strength and endurance, could lift heavier weights, do more reps and recovered faster from fatigue. Those who consume fresh Essential Fatty Acids find their energy levels pick up, they feel more inclined to physical activity and they stay alert later into the evening. Food cravings are also reduced.

Essential Fatty Acids, when obtained in the correct balance, have many other health-enhancing benefits which are explained in my FREE 20 page booklet.
