The Lemon Detox Diet - quite refreshing
By Trina Hart

I was asked by Pure Natural Products Limited to try out their Lemon Detox Diet otherwise known as the Rejuvination Sensation.

The very attractive tin of Madal Bal Tree Syrup arrived on my desk the next day and I have to admit that there it sat for the following ten days, until I finally took the bull by the horn.

The thing with this diet is that you need to prepare yourself mentally, as it does require you to abstain from solid food for a minimum of 5 days. Not being a 'foodie' type this was not a big issue, but psychologically you have to over come 'meal time' hurdles.

Once you get over the first day the rest is easy. The drink, which is delicious hot, is made from the tree syrup, freshly squeezed lemons and a pinch of cayenne, and contains enough nutrients to keep your energy levels up for the 5 - 10 days. I found that if I made up a quantity to last the day and decanted it into a water bottle, I could use it as one would use a cordial. The key to this diet is to drink the syrup and lemon mixture throughout the day, along with plenty of fresh water.

By day three you could feel the detox working, your skin starts to glow, your stomach feels calmer and your head seems clearer. And yes, of course you loose weight. Going without solid food allows the body the breathing space to cleanse itself, restore balance, strengthen resistance and rejuvenate the entire being. People who have completed the programme reported a wide variety of benefits such as cleansing of body toxins, weight loss, increased vigour and vitality, better digestion, sounder sleep, better circulation, shiny hair and stronger nails, clear skin and eyes and a sense of inner peace.

Tree syrup is made from maple and palm syrup in its purest form, with no artificially flavouring or chemical additives. It contains Iron (Fe), Manganese (Mn), Zinc (Zn), Magnesium (Mg), Sodium (Na), Calcium (Ca) and Potassium (K) - a well-balanced mineral content. Fresh lemons have long been associated with medicinal qualities, not least vitamin C, and the cayenne pepper not only gives a bit of a kick to this drink, but is also useful in breaking down mucus build-up in the body.

I completed the course and found that to begin with it was a challenge, but by the end of day 5 I felt very relaxed and was really enjoying the whole experience. I had to reintroduce solid food gently with some fruit, home made soup and a light lunch the following day, but after that I was back to a normal diet.

The lasting effect for me has been that as a great tea drinker, (on average 6 - 8 cups a day, each with one spoon of sugar), I now find that I am looking for a different taste and so have taken up fruit teas. This appears to have had an effect as far as my normal weekly migraines are concerned - it could be the tea, it could be the sugar, the milk or a combination. Whatever the reason, I feel that I must listen to what my body is telling me on this one, and leave well alone.

I would recommend this diet if you are trying to loose weight or looking for a general body maintenance programme, or both. I lost 5lbs but am not overweight anyway, my husband who joined me on the diet lost 8lbs and is happy to do the full 10 days next time.
