Natural Hormone Replacement Therapy
By Bryn Towns

As a Kinesiologist I am constantly looking for ways to improve the quality of life for my clients. Over the last several months I have seen a remarkable increase in the number of women looking for an alternative to estrogen-based (traditional) Hormone Replacement Therapy.

I believe this is as a result of an increased awareness (and experience) of the potential side-effects of taking estrogen-based HRT products.

ìSo whatís the alternative?î you may rightly ask.
Well, there are several. One point I wish to make however, is that it seems logical to me that if you can secure relief from menopausal discomfort by NOT increasing your susceptibility to the points listed above, then better still; and this is possible.

ìHow?î you ask?
Well, by shifting your focus to Progesterone stimulation rather than Estrogen stimulation. By re-balancing your hormones through the stimulation of Progesterone rather than Estrogen, you can secure relief from menopausal symptoms, whilst minimizing (or possibly completely eliminating) your risk of the above potential problems.

There are a multitude of herbal products and creams that afford a viable and effective alternative to estrogen-based HRT. Admittedly some of the remedies are not as potent as estrogen-based HRT and have to be used in combination, but so what?

I have numerous clients who have secured complete relief of menopausal symptoms through alternative methods. Not only that, many women who cannot take estrogen-based HRT are at the sole mercy of such alternatives.

Anecdotal evidence shows that in many instances:

ï Weightloss occurs more easily
ï Diuretics often become a thing of the past
ï Breast-tenderness is often completely eliminated
ï The dreaded ëhot flashesí disappear;
ï Sleep improves
ï Diabetes is more easily regulated and more stable
ï Blood pressure improves
ï Osteoblast (bone cell) formation is stimulated
ï Blood clotting remains ënormalí

Because progesterone limits endometrial growth and matures breast cells, there is no increased risk of the cancers thought to be stimulated by estrogen-based HRT.

So now you have the choice, what to do about it?
Well, you could approach your healthcare professional for advice on Progesterone stimulation; you could contact me for further advice/a consultation; or if you like, you could write to me c/o Whatmedicine? enclosing a cheque in my favor (B. Towns) for £3,50 and enclosing an A5 SASE, and Iíll send you a booklet entitled ëNo More Horse Peeí, for your perusal. Note I have limited stocks of the booklet, so first come, first served!

The following is a (shortened) list of the possible side-effects of estrogen-based HRT:

ï Stimulation of endometrial growth;
ï Stimulation of breast growth;
ï Increase in blood pressure;
ï Fluid retention;
ï Stimulation of blood clotting (thrombosis);
ï Rise in blood sugar;
ï Weight gain; and

There is a definitive link between HRT and certain cancers (because of points 1 and 2 above - check the package insert - itís all detailed there).
